Solar + battery backup kits sold through the branches

The energy emergency turned rooftop solar into a panic buy. Sell boxed kits and installs from all 7 branches before the big players reach Pangasinan.

Estimates at steady state. Payback = start-up cost ÷ monthly net profit.

Potential

₱1.5–3M gross profit/yr across 7 branches (≈20 kits + 4 installs a month)

Margin

Kits 25–35% gross; installs add ₱8–15k labor per job

How technical: High

DC electrical, battery sizing, safe install practice. Grid-tied jobs above 1 kW need a licensed electrical engineer to sign. Your engineering background is the edge here.

How to tackle it

  1. Week 1–2Start BOC importer accreditation (CPRS). Get quotes from 3 factories for a 1 kW kit, 6 kW hybrid and 5 kWh LiFePO4; run each in the calculator.
  2. Week 3–6Order samples by air, test them yourself for a week (charge, discharge, heat). Place one LCL order: 30 small kits, 10 hybrid sets.
  3. Month 2–3Demo kits live in Dagupan and Malasiqui. Train 2 staff per branch. Launch the fixed-price 'Brownout-proof' bundle on Facebook.
  4. Month 4–6Form an install crew with a licensed electrician. Reorder only the 3 best-selling SKUs. Target 20 kits/month before adding a second container.

Why now

  • The Philippines declared a national energy emergency in March 2026 after the Iran war hit oil supply; gasoline is up about 68% since late February.
  • Installer networks report customer inquiries up about 582% while installations rose only about 170%: demand is ahead of supply.
  • The country imported 5 GW+ of panels in 2025 and 4 GW in just Jan–Apr 2026.
  • Since August 2026, plug-and-play systems up to 1 kW (and microinverters up to 0.8 kW) need no building permit or certificate of compliance, so a boxed kit can be a normal retail SKU.

What to bring in

  • Plug-and-play 600–1,000 W balcony/rooftop kits (panel + microinverter + cable)

    HS 8541.43 / 8504.40 · Usually 0–1% (verify)

  • Hybrid inverters 3–8 kW, low-voltage 48 V

HS 8504.40 · Low; ACFTA often 0% (verify)

  • LiFePO4 batteries 5–10 kWh, rack or wall

HS 8507.60 · Low; ACFTA often 0% (verify)

  • BOS: MC4, PV cable, DC breakers, SPD, rails and clamps

    HS 8536 / 8544 / 7616 · Mixed; several need BPS ICC

Local market: Pangasinan

Who you compete with

  • Solar Philippines and partner dealers (active in Dagupan, Mangaldan, Laoac)
  • Small local installers selling through Facebook pages
  • Online sellers on Shopee/Lazada shipping panels and inverters to Pangasinan
  • Utility-scale plants (AboitizPower San Manuel, ACEN) are not retail competitors

Price benchmarks

Where to price

1 kW plug-and-play kit at ₱29,990–₱39,990; 6 kW hybrid + 5 kWh battery installed at ₱180k–₱230k (undercut the mid-range by owning the import).

Fit with Boyztoys

You already have the retail footprint, delivery trucks from the Zamora bodega and a tools customer base that includes electricians. Solar BOS (cables, breakers, rails) sits next to what you sell today.

Permits and rules

  • BOC importer accreditation (CPRS) needed before the first formal entry
  • DTI-BPS ICC for items on the mandatory list (breakers, wires, some inverters): check before ordering
  • Grid-tied above 1 kW still needs a building permit; net metering goes through the distribution utility

Risks

  • Price war as module prices keep falling: buy small, turn stock fast
  • Bad batteries ruin reputation: insist on cell grade A, BMS spec and 3-year warranty in the PO
  • Installer quality: certify 1–2 in-house teams before advertising installs
